Job Overview

The Department of Tourism is offering an Entry-Level Administrative Officer (Clerk) position to unemployed South Africans looking to gain experience in the public service. This role involves general administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, record-keeping, and office support, providing valuable exposure to government operations and essential workplace skills.

About You:

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  1. Grade 12 certificate with accounting as one of the passed subjects

Skills and Competencies: 

  1. Computer Literacy (MS Office), Written and verbal communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Organisational and analytical skills.

Knowledge: 

Knowledge of clerical duties, practices, as well as the ability to capture data, operate a computer, and collect statistics. Basic knowledge and insight of the Public Service financial legislations, procedures, and Treasury regulations (PFMA, DORA, PSA, PSR, PPPFA, Financial Manual).

Duties:

  • Record, organize, store, log, and retrieve correspondence and data (line functions). Update registers and statistics. Handle routine inquiries. Make photocopies and receive or send faxes. Distribute documents/packages to various stakeholders as needed. Maintain and maintain a filing system for the component. Type letters and/or other correspondence as needed. Maintain and maintain a register of incoming and outgoing documents for the component. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders regarding procurement of goods and services. Obtain price quotes, complete procurement forms for purchases of standard office supplies. Maintain and maintain a register of assets for the component. Establish and update a secure compliance filing system. Archive all reports, policy documents, and evidence of compliance activities. Maintain an audit trail for all major compliance events and decisions. Ensure documents are readily accessible. Maintain a leave register for the component. Maintain and maintain personnel records for the component. Handle petty cash.
