Brights Hardware was founded in 1971 by Mr. and Mrs. Luis as a General Dealer specializing in electrical contracting and repairs. Over the years, the business has evolved into a multifaceted outlet for all building materials and hardware needs.
Since opening its first warehouse in Stikland, Cape Town, in 1995, Brights has expanded rapidly, opening its first franchise store in Plattekloof in 2006 and a store in Blackheath in 2009. That same year, Northern Trusses was merged into the Brights Group and renamed Brights Trusses.
Further expansion continued with the opening of a store in Uitzicht, Durbanville, in late 2011, one in Langebaan in April 2012, and a large store in Montague Park in late 2013.
Today, Brights is owned and operated by Luis's children, their spouses, and Brights staff members, who are shareholders. Mrs. Luis, who remains part of the business as Founding Director, has dedicated her time to training and developing the skills of Brights' staff.
The late Mr. Luis, who passed away in 1998, is remembered as a leader with great vision and abundant energy – earning him the nickname “Bright Spark” within the family. This “spark” was embodied in real life by his daughter, Marina, who created “Sparky” for her pen pals when she was young. The same “Sparky” remains part of the company logo today.
“Our challenge has remained the same since our store opened in 1971 – to maintain the highest standards of service to our customers while living up to our motto that ‘Brights is more than just a hardware store,’” said Mrs. Luis (Brights Founder).

Job Description
Purpose: The purpose of this job is to deliver exceptional customer service in such a manner that external and internal customers are satisfied including delivery and transfer drivers. This is accomplished by offering friendly customer service, ensuring clean and tidy environment and accurate loading of all customers’ products purchased ensuring that the Yard runs efficiently so that no losses of neither stock nor dissatisfied customers occur in order to have customers return to the store increasing sales and profit margins.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with pulling of stock for transfers
- Reporting stock shortages
- Reporting stock breakages
- Up keeping of tidiness and cleaning of area by sweeping and upholding good housekeeping
- Participating in perpetual stocktakes
- Ensuring housekeeping of work area
- Performing any work related tasks as delegated by your superior
- Loading customers vehicles, delivery trucks and transfer trucks promptly and accurately
- Ensuring that stock is properly stacked and counted
- Assisting customers with excellent customer service and product knowledge
- Bagging of stone/ sand
About You:
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Ability to deliver excellent customer service
- Ability to numerically count stock
- Able to work independently and as a team player
- Be disciplined and motivated
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal)
- Physical fitness and stamina
- Matric or Equivalent
- 1 Year minimum experience in a similar role (preferred)
- Ability to handle pressure
